Why do as gas prices change from day to day?
Saturday, May 10, 2008
WSAV.com -- If you're fed up with the price of gas, line up behind everybody else. "To me what's going on is price gauging," one man at a gas station told me this week. He was filling up his tank and feeling the sting of prices that have risen more than 30 percent in the last month. One man from Wilmington Island called me, saying prices at his station jumped up ten cents on Thursday and then came back down on Friday. He wanted to know what was going on. We put the question to 12th district Congressman John Barrow. "The price you're paying for the gas that's in the ground is the price you're having to pay today in order to get the gas in the tank six months to a year from now. "

I like the last statement of the article: "Barrow's comments may give some hope to local drivers but not to one I talked to. "We should kick all the bums out, they're the ones who let it get this way," he told me. "You know republicans and democrats, it doesn't matter."

Most, if not all of them don't feel any effect of rising gas prices, and probably have made another billion dollars in their investment portfolio in the last couple of years...so why would they care...

It's all a publicity game now...nobody can or will ever fix this malarkey...until we're not using oil for every stupid thing we can think of.

Part of the price changes (the downward moves) are due our coordinated work here at gasprices.com. By rewarding low-markup retailers with high volume, we are driving the price down.

WHEN I WORKED IN SERVICE STATIONS 25 YEAR AGO, AND TALKED TO COMPANY REPS ABOUT GAS SHORTAGES. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A BIG JOKE. I WONDER IF THEY ARE LAUGHING ANY HARDER NOW.

The Fed's have done plenty but MOST of it has made it BETTER for the rich and WORSE for the working middle class.
-----------------------------------
In the many years before 2006 the Republicans control of our government did not foster increasing the supply of oil.
They also deregulated the markets which has allowed the Speculators freedom to RAISE the price of Crude with no regard to supply and demand.
Another bad thing that happened on their watch is all the Control of fuel to very few companies, no competition.

The government lets them go up. It encourages speculation. This is the only thing in our economy with positive ROI other than grain prices.

It's price gouging pure and simple. Most states were supposed to have laws against it, but I guess they don't have the guts to do a REAL investigation or go after the big oil boys.

all they can do is try to show OPEc ideas and other top reps to try to get these prices down. We all know, they can do more than what they are though.

Black magic I say... nothing but smoke and mirrors. It is the SPECULATORS that move the price around based on what they buy and sell that day.

I don't care how someone "explains" it. I just want to know when someone that CAN do something about this actually DOES do something about this.

Does this dude pay ANY attention to the news and markets?! The price of oil is why gas is so high. You'll be chasing dust in the wind if you think you're going to find evidence of gouging. Don't waste your time!

I agree that it is price gauging and you'd think something could be done about it. All the politicians are too busy worrying about the election and not the people.

They stations don't lower the price of gas they already have in the ground when they expect to pay less to refill their tanks. But they do raise the price of gas purchased at a cheaper price if they expect to pay more for their next tank. It's a win-win situation for THEM.

Too bad we can't demand a pay increase today in order to be able to pay for the gas six months to a year from now.

This goes both ways. I update prices everyday so others may find the least expensive station. It's not so much me saving $0.02 a gallon from a station a couple of blocks away as much as power in numbers that if 100% of gas is purchased from the less expensive station the more expensive will lower their price just to stay in business. Tell more people about this site! The Mobile Device site (gasbuddytogo.com) is great way to update prices on the go!

No, Congressman Barrow, the prices we're paying now are the direct result of SPECULATORS trying to determine how much the market (read: consumers) can bear before they change their driving habits. So far, no end in sight.

The Crude Oil Speculators are the Bad Guys driving up the Price of Crude Oil.

Control the Dollars decline, Strength the dollar to pre bush and the crude oil market will FALL.

Bush and Cheney are among the 'badest' trouble makers.
-----------------------------------
Our government is not for US it is for the paid lobbyists
We need to get RID of the paid lobbyists.
So the people WE elect listen to us and not be controlled be the greedy corporations.
-----------------------------------
STOP POLITICIANS and STAFF from becoming Lobbyists or working for the companies that they controlled when in Government.
Maybe make it a crime to be a paid lobbyist.

all politicians need to create energy policies and not be afraid to force conservation. money outflows from the USA will eventually make us slaves to OPEC. just like the ethanol fiasco is draining money due to high food prices we are going to get whacked by our massive use of oil through foreigners holding all our cash and buying all of our companies and land eventually.
